Sydney Spends December with Grandpa Tom

Our roving Scout, Sydney, spends each month with a different Pack to find out all the fun things our Cub Scouts do and learn. Sydney spent December with our District Commissioner, Grandpa Tom Hamlett, and had the following to say about it…

“Well, December finally arrived, and I got a chance to go spend time with Grandpa Tom for a months’ worth of adventure.  There was only one major stipulation, and that was that I entered 2021 without a tattoo and no BAD non-scout like habits.  That seemed like a pretty tall order to me, but Gramps put two fingers in the air with the Cub Scout sign and recited the Cub Scout promise to “Do Your Best.”

“Due to the on-going (which seems like a lifetime to me) COVID 19 shutdown, I was unable to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America day, but Gramps snuck (oops, I mean took me) out to the National Cemetery on the Thursday before, so I could as least pay my respects to the servicemen and women who made our country free.  I was filled with emotion and lots of pride to be an American as well as a Cub Scout.  Gramps took a few pictures for my scrapbook.

“Christmas was just around the corner and it was all I could do to contain myself from the excitement.  I was hoping that Elf on a Shelf was not somewhere in Grandpas house watching me and sending Santa bad reports.  The last thing I needed was a lump or two of coal.  I guess I must have been surprisingly good because Santa brought me one of my favorite Hallmark ornaments…. Snoopy and Beagle Scout pals portaging a canoe.  It was really really special and holds a special place in my collection.

“I finished the month by doing a good turn for my neighbors, helping them with their Christmas decorations.  They were happy to have them all packed up until next December.

“I cannot wait to go on my next adventure this month and start the new year off right with a new bunch of “Cubby Buddy’s.”

Scout’n on,

Sydney
