Darnall Daley reads his article, “Guardian of the Gate,” which has appeared in Advancement News and is considered by the National Advancement Team to be the most accurate accounting of the proper approach to advancement.
 
To our Unit Leaders new and seasoned – Yes, you are knowledgeable in advancement requirements, but do not allow your knowledge to hinder the program. You are not “requirements robots” either.
 
A scout Learns, is Tested, is Reviewed and Recognized, and Recognized and recognized. Just as your son or daughter responds well to an “Attta-boy” or “Atta-girl”, so does the scout. 
 
In short, let us not GUARD, but INVITE and ENCOURAGE.
