2021 Eagle Project of the Year – Alex Palomo
Alex Palomo receives 2021 Eagle Project of the Year Award
The Grand Canyon Council NESA (National Eagle Scout Association) Committee awarded Alex Palomo of Troop 526 the 2021 Eagle Project of the Year. For Alex’s Eagle Project, 53 hand washing stations were made for Red Feather, an organization that serves the Hopi Tribe and Navajo Nation in Arizona. Red Feather delivered the hand washing stations to the Tuba City area, Kykotsmovi, Bacavi and Indian Wells.
Alex was very honored to receive the award and immediately thanked the Scouts and Leaders in his troop for all their help. In looking back on his Eagle Project, Alex said, “I really enjoyed creating a new handwashing station design with the larger 30 and 50 gallon barrels. It was a great experience for learning leadership skills and at the same time being able to help the citizens of the Navajo Nation and Hopi Tribe.”
Michael Rooney is the GCC NESA Committee Chair and he and Hugh Hallman, former mayor of Tempe, reviewed many outstanding Eagle Projects. They ultimately selected Alex’s Eagle Project for this distinguished honor.
Once a Scout becomes an Eagle Scout, they can become a member of NESA as a youth and an adult because a Scout’s journey does not end at Eagle. NESA members play a critical role in creating a world filled with leaders who are responsible, participating citizens guided by the Scout Oath and Law. Eagle Scouts, who are NESA members, may also apply for NESA scholarships beginning in their senior year of high school through their junior year in college.
